Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy Kingdom Organic Aged Cheddar?
Kingdom is currently available in selected Costco Stores across the USA.
What is Kingdom Organic Aged Cheddar Cheese?
Kingdom Organic Sharp Cheddar Cheese is a premium, artisan-quality cheese that is handcrafted by producers whose skills have been handed down through generations of cheesemaking. Our cheese begins with fresh organic milk from cows that are over 80% grass-fed on Southwest England’s fertile pastures. We then age the cheese a minimum of nine months.
What gives Kingdom Organic Aged Cheddar Cheese its bold, distinctive flavor?
The rolling fields of Southwest England are known for their lush grass. Our cows enjoy a smorgasbord of grass and legumes that impart a unique flavor to the milk. The cheese is then handcrafted in small batches to create a hard cheese that contains notes of grass and clover.
We age the cheese a minimum of ten months at a constant temperature with high relative humidity to bring out the cheddar’s special flavor and texture.
How are Kingdom Organic Cheddars made?
Each chunk of Kingdom Organic Cheddar Cheese begins as a larger block that is hand-pressed and packed into a traditional wooden crate. The cheese is then aged for a minimum of ten months at a constant temperature of 50ºF with high relative humidity. The crates maintain the shape of the cheese while allowing for the proper airflow for the ripening process.
Are the cows treated humanely?
Our cows are born and raised on small organic family farms and are over 80% grass-fed. Our farmers are members of the largest organic cooperative in the United Kingdom, Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo), which has protocols to ensure the humane treatment of the animals under our care.
Are GMOs used in Kingdom Organic Cheddars?
USDA Organic regulations prohibit the use of any GMO feed. All of our products are accredited to the Non GMO Project Standard.
Are Kingdom Organic Cheddars gluten-free?
Yes, all of our organic cheese products are gluten-free.
Are Kingdom Organic Cheddars lactose-free?
No, as a dairy product, our cheese contains lactose.
Are Kingdom Organic Cheddars suitable for vegetarians?
We only use a microbial-based enzyme to make our cheese. This enzyme curdles the curds, and is approved for vegetarians.
How long will Kingdom Organic Cheddar maintain its quality?
We guarantee 90 days from the time our aged cheese is packaged if it is stored under refrigeration.
What is the best way to store Kingdom Organic Cheddars?
We recommend that you simply store it below 41⁰ F (5⁰ C).
Can Kingdom Organic Cheddars be frozen, and then thawed for use?
We do not recommend freezing Kingdom Cheddar. The moisture in the cheese will crystalize, and change the texture when it is defrosted. If you want to freeze Kingdom Cheddar to be used for cooking, we recommend that you grate the cheese before freezing.
Why do we claim to come from “The Birthplace of Cheddar?”
Simply put, our cheese is made in the region of the UK where cheddar first began. The first cheddars originated in the village of Cheddar in Somerset, England, where a deep gorge at the edge of the village contains a number of caves that provide the ideal humidity and temperature for maturing cheese. Cheesemaking skills that began in the 12th century have been handed down from generation to generation in this region.
